Operation lands S’burg man in jail on felony drug offenses

An undercover operation brought on after citizens reported suspected drug activity in the area, has landed a Sampson County man in jail under a $60,000 bond.

Marcus Donte Williams, 25, of 80 Laurel Wood Lane, Salemburg, was jailed Friday night after being arrested for a string of felony offenses related to the sell of cocaine.

According to Sampson County Sheriff’s reports, Special Investigations Division officers took Williams into custody at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning. The suspect was pulled over on Bearskin Road for a routine traffic violation by a patrol deputy. When the deputy ran his name, he discovered Williams was wanted on outstanding warrants from the SID and turned him over to the division.

Williams, who did not have any drugs in his possession at the time of the stop, but had allegedy sold cocaine to undercover agents during a recent investigation, was charged with two counts of selling a schedule II controlled substance (cocaine); two counts of conspiracy to sell a schedule II controlled substance (cocaine); and two counts of manufacturing a schedule II controlled substance (cocaine).

The suspect was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center where he was placed under a $60,000 bond by Magistrate C. Hollingsworth. His first trial date will be Nov. 13.

He has previously been convicted of felony breaking and entering, according to the N.C. Department of Corrections.
