Despite a good effort at bat, the Lady Dark Horses are still searching for that first conference win this season. The Swansboro Pirates walked away with a 10-3 win at Clinton on Friday.

Despite being disappointed with the loss, Clinton’s head coach Jennifer Thompson only had good things to say about her Lady Dark Horses.

“Our team played well despite a few errors. We played hard and I was very proud of the effort they put forth,” she stated.

On defense, Clinton starting pitcher Jordan Pietrolaj struck out 5 Pirate batters

The Horses scored their first two runs in the 3rd inning when Susan Jones got on with a double and then teammate DeAsia Edwards hit an in-field home run. The very next inning, Kristen Glasper got on third with a triple and was brought home by a hit to left field by Sydney Simmons.

The team moves to 0-5 in the conference and will host Topsail on Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Injuries

This season’s varsity team has been plagued by injuries. Two of their top-of-the-lineup starters are sitting on the sidelines. Senior Peyton Mitchell was hurt in a serious automobile accident and won’t be back the entire season. She played third base and pitcher.

Then, in the game versus East Bladen, Senior Britnie Adams’s knee cap popped out of place and her patella tendon and meniscus tore. She was on third after hitting a triple, went to tag up for a race to home plate and snatched her knee.

Paramedics took her to hospital immediately and she has been on crutches ever since. No date has been set as to when or if her doctor will release her to play any this season.
