The QuickDraw Center, which opened its doors on June 1, has been helping patients cut their lab wait time with quick service that has them in and out of the lab in no time. Before the center opened, patients who needed frequent lab work had to go to Sampson Regional Medical Center to get it done. With the opening of the QuickDraw Center, patients can still count on those skilled professionals from the hospital lab to help get the job done.
In addition, the center’s location and spacious parking makes it easier for those who have trouble with long walks or disabilities.
“It’s convenient, and parking is easy,” said Sampson Regional Medical Center CEO David Masterson proudly. “It’s not as far to ambulate for those patients who have trouble walking. The Outpatient Diagnostics Center (ODC) is also less crowded than the hospital’s Outpatient Registration entrance, and the environment at ODC offers more tranquility to ease stress.”
Masterson said he is excited to have the QuickDraw Center under the SRMC umbrella, which includes SRMC, Sampson Home Health, the Outpatient Rehabilitation Center, the SRMC Cancer Center, Sampson Internal Medicine; the Carolina Pain Center, Sampson Women’s Center, Sampson Home Health and Clinton Urgent Care, to name a few.
“Anytime we can improve patient satisfaction and convenience, I’m excited,” he said. “Opening the QuickDraw Center allows us to take full advantage of the ODC to expand services in the community.”
“We wanted to provide people with a more convienent option for their lab specimen collection,” said Ann Cortes, director of Laboratory Services. “Everything is so accessible here. You can literally park up next to the front door. Registration and collection is right here on site, so people can come in and get in and get out in a short amount of time without worrying about parking or walking through long hallways just to get a sample taken.”
Cortes said the facility also can handle X-rays and lab tests at the same time.
“The patients do not need a referral to come in,” she said. “They just need to have a doctor’s order faxed in ahead of time or they can just carry it in. This staff here are devoted to the outpatients. We don’t have the emergencies where you have to go to the E.R. or have to go upstairs, so we take care of it all right here, which the patients appreciate.”
“Any patient with an order for lab work can go to the QuickDraw Center at ODC,” said Masterson. “Even if a patient has seen a physician out of town, they can simply stop by with an order and receive their lab work at the QuickDraw Center.”
Cortes, who has been with Sampson Regional Medical Center for 30 years, said the center is a great addition to the fold.
“It is really exciting because it is a really nice facility,” she said. “I have seen a lot of growth in my years here, and it is good to see everyone working for the community and seeing how we can best fit their needs. Time is important, especially when people have to take a lunch break to get their lab work done, this center is a good way to get in quicker and get out.”
The center is geared for adolescent and adults with the typical wait time being about 10 minutes.
“It is a great thing,” said Cortes. “The patients that have come through here have said very positive things about what we are doing here, which makes you feel good. We just want everyone to know we are here.”
