The Roseboro community is mourning the loss of one of their own today, nearly two days after Della Knowles died from injuries she sustained in a weekend accident.
Social media sites were abuzz with word of the young woman’s death Tuesday night, and friends were urging prayers for her family.
All those posting on Facebook noted how tragic the event had been and how saddened the community was over the loss. And all called the young mother a dear woman who would be terribly missed by all who knew her.
The Cumberland County Highway Patrol confirmed that Knowles, of 205 W. Pleasant St., Roseboro, died of her injuries sometime Tuesday afternoon, two days after the accident.
The 39-year-old was critically injured Sunday as she traveled on N.C. 24 east in Stedman. According to preliminary Patrol reports ,the motorcycle she was driving ran into the back of another vehicle as they headed down N.C. 24, approximately .1 miles east of East First Street.
The accident happened just after 7 p.m. Sunday when, reports note, Knowles failed to reduce speed and collided with a passenger vehicle, striking it from behind. The motorcycle then struck a curb and overturned, and Knowles was ejected from the motorcycle.
This is the third Sampson County person killed in a traffic accident since Jan. 1, 2013. The other two accidents happened on Sampson roadways.
