The Midway Raiders boys cross country team posted another victory Wednesday in Carolina Conference action at Princeton. Participating teams, besides Midway, were Rosewood, North Duplin, Spring Creek, Goldsboro, North Johnston, and the host school Princeton.

Last week at Mount Olive College, with fall-like temperatures, Midway’s top 5 all posted personal best finish times. However, Tuesday, the heat returned and the result was slower times for most of the runners.

Midway’s Michael McLamb crossed the finish line first with a time of 18:29. Allen Coor of Spring Creek was just 2 seconds behind for the runner-up spot. Raiders Dalton Butler and Caleb Sanders both posted times of 18:56 for 3rd and 4th places. Heath Smith took 5th in 19:12. Ritchell Causar was the 5th Raider to finish and he took 11th place with a time of 20:14. Alex Bradley was 15th in 20:59, and Tyler Mayes was the final Raider with a time of 24:30. The tops 5 finishes are added together for each school and the low score wins.

“We’re running against the clock,” stressed Raider coach Heath Brewer. “We’re running to catch Bishop McGuiness and Lake Norman.” (Those are the schools which tend to dominate the post season in cross country).

In girls’ action, Kimberly O’Brien led the Raiders. She finished 8th with a time of 28:54.

Kimberly Sublett and Sara Ward were close behind with 9th and 10th place finishes respectively. The Lady Eagles of Rosewood finished first.

The Raiders will compete at Rosewood next Wednesday.
