It was a tough night for Midway’s Raiders as they traveled to Wallace-Rose Hill to face a fierce Bulldog soccer team and torrential downpours.
The combination proved deadly as the ‘Dogs ripped into Midway from the start, taking a 2-0 lead and improving on it until they got the 7-1 victory.
A disappointed and upset coach Allan McLamb said he owed his team an apology for even allowing them to continue play in the rainy conditions.
“You can say Coach Allan McLamb apologizes to his team for even putting them in this situation,” McLamb said of the rainy weather. “It won’t happen again.”
McLamb tried to get officials to hold up the game to see if the rain would subside or postpone until Thursday, but officials wanted to try to get through the first half.
The Raiders squared off with the Bulldogs, with Wallace seizing every opportunity and scoring 2 quick goals to give the home team the advantage.
After the break, McLamb said he had his team push forward to try to catch up with Wallace, something he said he regretted doing.
“It was stupidity on my part to keep on. We should have quit,” McLamb said.
The coach also tipped his hat to Wallace. “They are a very good soccer team,” he stressed.
Jimmy Blackmon scored the Raiders’ only goal of the night.
