The Midway Raiders delivered a 36-21 victory over the Lakewood Leopards in JV football action Thursday night.

Midway took a 20-13 lead into the half only to see that lead slip away from a determined Leopard offense, who clawed their way back into the game in the second half, eventually taking the lead.

But the Raiders focused their game plan and came back to pull away late in the third and the fourth quarters.

“I thought we came out sluggish,” admitted Midway head coach Jason Fussell. “We didn’t play that great to be honest. When Lakewood took the lead in the third, then we got back into it.”

Fussell said his coaching staff was the key to the game.

“Our guys are pretty banged up,” the coach said. “I thought the coaches did a great job in rotating the guys in and out of the game. By the fourth quarter, we had guys with fresh legs coming into the game and that is really what helped us. The coaches realized that and kept switching the guys out.”

The win puts Midway at 4-2 going into next week’s game at home vs. Union.
