A routine traffic stop for a lane violation turned up marijuana and metallic knuckles and has given an Elizabethtown man a date with a judge.

Alphonso McDonald, III, 35, of 2617 Murphy St. Elizabethtown, was traveling near Bland School Road when he was pulled over by a deputy with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office.

According to reports released Wednesday morning, McDonald, who was traveling with two passengers, was pulled over for a lane violation just after 6 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 26.

The deputy, reports show, could smell marijuana as soon as he walked up to the vehicle. When he began talking with McDonald, a small bag of marijuana was visible in the driver’s seat. Reports show that McDonald admitted to the drugs being his, as well another smaller bag in the glove compartment.

In all, 1.29 grams of marijuana was discovered during the stop.

A search of McDonald also turned up a set of metallic knuckles, located in his back pocket.

He was taken to the magistrate’s office where he was charged with possession of marijuana; possession of drug paraphernalia; and carrying a concealed weapon.

He was cited, given a trial date for Nov. 28 and released.
