The Sampson Community College Foundation held its second annual Scholar Donor Cookout Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 27, in the Warren Student Center on campus. Over 80 scholars, many of which were in attendance, along with the SCC Board of Trustees, the Foundation Board of Directors and SCC faculty and staff gathered for the occasion.

The annual event is held each year with the purpose of fostering relationships between scholars and donors. “This being our second Scholar-Donor Cookout, we were thrilled with the turnout,” says Lisa Turlington, Executive Director of the Foundation. “Our main objective is to give the students a chance to meet and thank those responsible for helping fund their education. However, we also view it as an opportunity for our donors to see their gifts at work enriching lives. It was a way to celebrate the achievement of our scholars and the generosity of our patrons.”

Scholars and donors were welcomed by Dr. Bill Starling, vice president of administration, who also offered the invocation. Judye Tart, director of financial aid at SCC congratulated the scholars and stated her appreciation for the donors who are making a profound difference in the lives of these students. “Our scholarship recipients are very deserving of honor and recognition. But more importantly, I am thankful for our scholarship donors and the SCC Foundation for their willingness to assist our students in helping make their educational dreams come true.”
