Sampson County is rich in many things, one of them young ladies who have represented various towns and cities in the Miss North Carolina and the Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen pageants. Kate Peacock and Kaylan Dean Sinclair, participants in the Miss N.C. Outstanding Teen pageant are yet two more.
Peacock is a senior at Midway High School and is the daughter of Gary and Penny Peacock. She is not only Benson’s Miss Outstanding Teen, she is the reigning Miss Midway High School.
“Being on the Miss North Carolina stage was a dream fulfilled,” exclaimed Peacock. “Being on that stage is something that I have dreamed of since I was a little girl. By being up their with the other 35 girls, I accomplished my goal. It was simply a wonderful experience for me.”
Peacock made it to the top five and was named second runner-up in the Miss North Carolina Outstanding Teen Pageant.
“It was my first time competing in Miss Outstanding Teen. It was more of a learning experience for me, and I took a lot from the time I spent preparing and participating in the state pageant,” remarked Peacock.
The Raider senior shared that she has aged out of the Outstanding Teen category now and feels that she will wait a few years to gain more life experiences before entering the Miss North Carolina Pageant.
“I truly want to compete in the Miss North Carolina Pageant but I am still too young and hope to gain more experience and learn more about life before entering the pageant,” explained Kate.
The Midway senior plans to attend North Carolina State University following graduation next spring. She plans to major in education and hopes to be a member of the varsity dance team when she becomes a student.
Sinclair is a student at Hobbton High School and she represented Wilmington as the Greater Wilmington Outstanding Teen. She is the daughter of Dewain and Karen Sinclair. Kaylan is a rising sophomore at Hobbton High School. She has three older brothers.
“Being in the pageant was a lot of fun. I had to work on my stage presence and interview skills, but the most exciting thing was getting to make so many new friends,” expressed Sinclair.
Kaylan received a bronze award in the Duke of Edinburgh program.
“I enjoyed the experience so much that I plan to participate in the Outstanding Teen program again next year. It is truly a valuable experience that I very much want to continue. Being able to participate in the Outstanding Teen program is a great way to expand how and what you think and a great way to make life-long friends,” asserted Sinclair.
