Exactly two weeks after the first arrest in Operation Scarecrow was made, reports have been filed for the 23rd person taken into custody on felony drug charges as a result of the six-month undercover operation targeting the sale and distribution of methamphetamine, cocaine, marijuana and prescription pills.

The most recent arrest, made Wednesday, came in the northern part of the county as a Faison area man was taken into custody in Newton Grove.

Christopher Hill, 31, of 3095 Brewer Road, Faison, was charged with seven counts of trafficking in methamphetamine and placed under $140,000 secured bond for the charges.

His is just the latest “Scarecrow” arrest.

The undercover operation started as a result of citizen complaints. It involved Sampson County Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division agents conducting undercover buys which led to dozens upon dozens of warrants being issued. Hill’s arrest brought the total felony warrants served in the last 14 days to 99.

According to Hill’s arrest report, he was taken into custody as he traveled in a 2005 Nissan Altima on McLamb Road, near Parker Gas. Reports state that 57 grams of methamphetamine were seized in connection with Hill’s arrest, an amount over and above what warrants were executed for in the Scarecrow operation.
