Sampson County Sheriff’s officials said there would be myriad arrests before a six-month undercover operation had jailed all those involved in felony drug activity across the county, and as the number of those brought in continues to mount, it looks as if that prediction will be right on target.
Four more suspects either turned themselves in or found themselves apprehended by law enforcement over the last few days as part of Operation Scarecrow, an initiative started because of citizen complaints and culminating in Special Investigations Division agents conducting undercover buys which led to dozens of warrants being issued.
The latest to be caught in the Scarecrow snare include Christopher Strickland, 24, 1004 Reed Branch Road, Salemburg; James Darrell Sutton, 46, 747 Lakewood School Road, Roseboro; Osharmaine Edwards, 37, 295 Capers Walk Lane, Clinton; and Steven Deaton, 45, 3335 Hayes Mill Road, Godwin.
With those arrests, the total felony drug charges leveled rises to 92 with SID agents still expecting more suspects to be taken into custody over the next few days.
Strickland faces one count each of felony sell of marijuana, deliver of marijuana and sell and delivery of marijuana. He was a passenger in a vehicle stopped over the weekend by officers on Hayne Stretch Road. When officers found that there was a warrant for his arrest, Strickland was taken into custody without incident. His bond was set at $25,000. No court date was listed.
Edwards faces two counts of felony sell and deliver cocaine. His bond was set at $15,000 and his court date listed at Oct. 26.
Deaton is charged with one count each of felony sell of a Schedule IV controlled substance and deliver of a Schedule IV controlled substance. He was jailed under $5,000 bond with an Oct. 26 court date set. Deaton met agents at his home after discovering that there had been a warrant issued for his arrest.
Sutton faces 1 count each of selling cocaine, deliver cocaine and maintaining a dwelling for the sell of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $14,500, and his court date listed at Oct. 26.
