Despite having 17 freshman, the Hobbton Wildcats held their own against a visiting Union Spartan team in the first half Thursday night.
After going into the break knotted at 24, a few mishaps allowed the Spartans pulled away in the second half of play and onto a 60-38 victory.
“I will tell you, I thought the whole team played well tonight, especially the offensive line,” noted Wildcat head coach Mike Barnett. “It was the best they have played all year. We made a few mistakes, but the guys finished strong and I am proud of them.”
Scoring: 1 23 4
Union8 24 54 60
Hobbton 12 24 30 38
Leaders for Hobbton were: Logan Langston; Tyjay Gray, 4 TDs; Steven Bell.
“The guys scored on the final kick of the game with 38 seconds left,” added Barnett. “They played with a lot of heart tonight.”
Winless, the Wildcats will play again next week on the road vs. Trask.
