Kristen Nicole Strickland has been chosen as the North Duplin Junior/Senior High School 2011/12 Student of the Year for the Mount Olive Exchange Club.
She is a senior at North Duplin and is the daughter of Michelle and Billy Sieprawski and the late Chris Strickland. Kristen received a $1,000 scholarship from the Mount Olive Exchange Club in May to be used to help with her college education.
Strickland is an active student at North Duplin. She is involved in various clubs and activities. She is president this year for the Beta Club, vice president for the Health Careers Club, and is also the vice president of her senior class. She is also a member of the Student Council, Science Club and is a member of the youth group at May’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. She had played tennis, basketball, and softball during high school, and she attended the 2010 LEAD Program at the UNC School of Pharmacy. Kristen was nominated for the Morehead-Cain Scholarship and the Gladys Barr Scholarship this past fall.
She works at Parker Drug Company and accredits her employer, Preston Parker, for her goal to pursue pharmacy as a career.
During her spare time, she enjoys fishing, painting, drawing, cooking, playing tennis, and spending time with family and friends. She enjoys multiple types of music and her favorite books are “To Kill A Mockingbird” by Harper Lee and “Their Eyes Were Watching God” by Zora Neale Hurston. One of her favorite quotes is “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” ~Philippians 4:13.
When asked who she most admires and looks up to, she said, “I admire my great grandmother, Edna Williamson, because she has survived a heart attack, and she would do anything for you as long as she was physically able. She is a selfless person, and she has never smoked or drank. When someone was ugly to her, she was never ugly back to them. Also, God has always come first in her life along with her family, as it does in mine.”
After graduating from North Duplin Junior/Senior High School, Kristen will be attending Campbell University to pursue a Doctorate of Pharmacy.
