Change is hard! Sometimes we don’t change because the fear of the unknown is very scary! To change requires us to do things differently, and frankly, many of us have become complacent or comfortable where we’re at. We like the way we’ve done things and we think it’s working for us, so why mess it up?

Sometimes those around us see that we’re in need of desperate changes but we deny it, minimize it, blame shift or excuse our behaviors. Like addictions or compulsions that are ruining our lives, we have no intention of changing them. Some examples: enabling, tobacco use, anger/rage, codependency, compulsive spending/debt, overeating/being overweight, gambling, depression, critical spirit, negativity, fears, prescription drug abuse, perfectionism, pornography use, worry, etc. We like where we’re at and we have no intention of changing it now (no matter what others around us say).

Insanity has been described as doing the same thing over and over again, expecting a different result. We can choose to walk out of the insanity in our lives. When we change the way we think and act, our whole life can change during the process. Change can be a positive thing! We can embrace change! We have to learn to replace our old ways of thinking and acting with new ways. God doesn’t want us to feel “stuck” in our unhealthy relationships or bad habits! He wants to give you freedom!

God says in Jeremiah 6:14 (TLB), “You can’t heal a wound by saying it’s not there!” I was feeling bad for awhile and initially dismissed the pain until eventually it disrupted my life. I knew that something had to change, as I was miserable, so I found out I needed surgery, and much as I didn’t want to undergo the procedure, I knew it would help me feel better. Well, needless to say I was in pain for several days after wards! Change is like surgery! It may hurt for awhile and take quite some time to heal, but eventually you start to feel better.

Recently, Celebrate Recovery has been making some changes, too. We’ll be moving the meetings from Thursdays at First Baptist Church in Clinton to Mondays at The Journey (located directly across from Plain View Elementary School, out in the Spivey’s Corner area) in Dunn. We’re anticipating this change to be another positive thing!

Please join us, starting Monday Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at The Journey, 4191 Plain View Hwy, Dunn. For more information, call 910-379-4033 or via email: nccelebraterecovery@gmail.com You cannot do anything unless you get started, so take that first step towards making some positive changes in your life and join us!
