An early morning traffic stop on Clinton’s Main Street Wednesday has left two area residents — one from the city, the other from Sampson County — in trouble with law enforcement officers.

A Clinton police officer made the stop around 12:50 a.m., pulling a Toyota over for what reports noted was traffic violations.

The vehicle’s driver, Michael Bryan Daughtry Jr., 20, of 2823 Timothy Road, Dunn, was charged with driving while impaired. He was placed under a $1,500 bond and a Feb. 18 court date was set.

His passenger, Joshua Earl Andrews, 20, 419 Lafayette St., Clinton, however, found himself in even more trouble.

Andrews, it turns out, had six outstanding warrants against him, all which were leveled following the stop. In addition, the officers discovered crystal meth in his possession, and charged him, too, with drug offenses.

In all .12 grams of crystal meth was seized, reports show.

In all, Andrews was charged with 2 counts felony possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, and on warrant with two counts of communicating threats, one count making threatening phone calls and possession drug paraphernalia.

He was placed under a $33,500 bond. His court date is set for Jan. 22.
