Investigators with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office have arrested two additional suspects believed to be involved with an incident that took place on Oct. 7 at a South River Electric substation just outside of Clinton on U.S. Highway 701 North.

Dustin Brooks Darity, 27, of 115 Jenkins Court, Teachey, was arrested and charged with injury to electric wires/equipment; larceny; possession of stolen goods; obtaining property by false pretenses; and conspiracy. Also arrested was Marvin Ray Davis, 33, of 615 Earl Davis Road, Rose Hill, who was charged with injury to electric wires/equipment; larceny; possession of stolen goods; injury to personal property and conspiracy.

Another man, Jimmy Butler McKenzie, Jr., 41, of 905 White Oak Church Road, Clinton, was arrested immediately following the incident.

On the night of the incident, investigators discovered that inside the substation, bolts were removed from a transformer causing it to fall on a control panel, damaging the equipment. The stolen wire and damage were estimated at $6,340.

According to reports from Sampson County Sheriff’s officials, Darity and Davis reportedly arrived on the scene separately. Later in the evening, Darity is believed to have returned to the site to pick up Davis, because both told investigators, in separate interviews, that they were “scared” to go through with the larceny and subsequently blamed other people for being involved.

Reports show that the suspects were later seen on surveillance video unloading the scrap metal at a local salvage yard.

Darity was placed under a $15,000 bond and will have a trial date of Oct. 30; Davis was placed under a $7,500 bond. His trial date is to be announced.

Another suspect is currently being sought for his involvement as well.

I can't believe this. As much as I read the SI I would have seen the story that preceded this one about the Lakewood graduate who was arrested. I clicked on that article....you know the one entitled "Two Charged with Larceny" listed under similar stories and discovered an article that apparently was never posted on the website and if it was it must have been BRIEFLY as it had only 44 viewings. So who decided this wasn't worthy of the public viewing?
