Two plead in Warsaw murder

According to District Attorney Dewey Hudson, in addition to their guilty pleas, Jordan Guy and Ivan Wallace have agreed to testify truthfully against co-defendants Joleski Floyd, who is charged with first degree murder, and Devon Hobbs, who is charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
Both Guy and Wallace will be sentenced at a later date. Sentencing has been continued until the co-defendants’ cases are disposed. The state is represented by Chief Assistant District Attorney Ernie Lee and Assistant District Attorney Robert Roupe. Guy was represented by attorney Anita Powers and Wallace was represented by attorney Tim Smith.
The 20-year-old Barden was shot while sitting on a car talking with friends just after midnight on July 3. The incident occurred on the 200-block of Matthews Street at the Stewart Creek Apartments in Warsaw. Barden was found shot in the upper torso.
An autopsy performed by Dr. John Almeida of Onslow Memorial Hospital confirmed that there was a single gunshot wound to the upper, exterior left arm near the victim’s shoulder. The cause of death was a bullet that traveled through the victim’s chest cavity striking both lungs and the heart.
State Bureau of Investigation agents were assigned to provide assistance to the Warsaw Police Department in the investigation.
Hudson said Guy and Wallace initially provided statements to law enforcement that weren’t consistent and, after further interviews, both defendants indicated they were present at the scene, providing information about a co-defendant’s involvement in the offense. Consequently, Guy, Wallace, and Floyd were initially charged by law enforcement with murder; Hobbs was charged with accessory after the fact to murder.
“The prosecutors have met several times with the family of the victim and this is a senseless tragedy for this family, the Warsaw community, and Duplin County,” said Hudson.
