ROSEBORO — Two of four teenagers involved in a Saturday night wreck on Harmony Church Road remain hospitalized this morning, one in stable condition the other still serious.
Two girls, one the driver, Alexandria Vreugdenhil, 16, of Clinton, and her front seat passenger, Alissa Kornegay, 16, of Clinton, were reportedly shaken up but not seriously injured in the one-vehicle accident.
The young men — Josh King, 18, of Faison and Jeremiah Davis, 17, of Newton Grove, were back seat passengers and, according to N.C. Highway Patrol reports, were in the area of the vehicle where the most impact occurred.
According to Trooper J.L. Murphy, the wreck happened around 10:12 p.m. Saturday evening near the intersection of Bass Lake Road when Vreugdenhil’s 2009 Nissan, traveling east, went off the right side of the roadway.
Murphy said the driver overcorrected, sending the vehicle left of the center lane.
“It apparently got away from her and slid off the right side of the road and down an embankment,” Murphy said, adding that the vehicle then struck a piece of farm equipment, a disc, which was hooked behind a tractor.
When the vehicle struck the disc, the trooper said, it then traveled another 25 feet. The greatest impact was to the vehicle’s rear, where King and Davis were sitting. “It struck right in the passenger side,” Murphy said.
Both King and Davis were airlifted to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Neither Vreugdenhil nor Kornegay were transported by rescue for injuries.
Davis was listed in stable condition; King's condition was upgraded to serious at the Chapel Hill hospital.
Murphy said he charged the driver with a license restriction violation as well as careless and reckless driving.

"Our children should be taught, as we were, that rules are put in place for a reason. And that because we live in America, if we don’t like those rules, for whatever reason, we have channels by which we can attempt to have them changed. Breaking the rules should not be one of those channels".
Thank you, Sherry. I can hope the healing process will begin. To all the supporters of Alex, thank you. You did your best, but the end people should and will be held responsible for this accident.
Again, thank you, Sherry. Why you didn'y print this stunning revelation earlier is beyond me. I guess it was an oversight.
I thought your community was holding a candle light service for Alex while those two MEN were forgotten in the hospital.
No, I have no life. I'm a school yard bully. I am pathetic. Did I miss anything?
Once the fines are paid off, the insurance company pays out the medical expenses and Alex is given a 2010 vehicle, all will be right with the world.
I have to say, you guys defending law breakers would make great criminal lawyers!
Jesus told the accusers of the woman caught in adultery to cast the first stone if they had not sinned. You know what they did?THEY LEFT,
If there is anybody reading this ADULT OR TEENAGER who drives a car and you have NEVER,EVER broken the law in any way or if you are a parent of a teenager that has never disobeyed you at any time please comment.i WOULD LOVE TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE TO SAY.
As for Alex I'm sure she has and will suffer for years to come because of this mistake.
As for me my heart goes out to her and the others and their families. I am thankful to the Good Lord above that it wasn't any worse than it was.
