The Midway Middle School girls softball team played their last game of the year yesterday, squeaking by the Hobbton Wildcats in the final moments of the Roundup championship game, 6-4.

Down, but not out, the lady Raiders, with outs against them, came back to knot the 4-0 game in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Strickland, (first names not provided by coaches), brought in one run with her single, Sabra Knowles had one run batted and Kathryn Jackson brought in two on her triple, tying the game.

Errors allowed the runners to round bases and get within scoring distance.

“We had some errors at the wrong time,” said Hobbton coach Pat Bowden after the game. “I thought Midway played well.”

Midway Raider Jada Cannady drove in the game-winning run, said Raider coach Sam Kitchen after the game. “Hitting stars were Kathryn Jackson, Sabra Knowles... Jada Cannady had a huge hit in the top of the seventh, just a rocket double. Elizabeth McCullen pitched the whole game. She was outstanding.”

“My defense and my infield; I can’t say enough about them,” he added. “They came to play and that is a good team over there. We had to play our very best to beat them.”

Kitchen added that the Midway girls should be acknowledged for their efforts not only on the diamond but in volleyball, and basketball as well. “They won all three conferences,” said Kitchen.

Tayer Bowden, of the Hobbton Wildcats commented on the season after the game. “It went well; we only lost one game. I thought tonight we would have won this game if we would have had a little more heart.”

Over the past two years, said Bowden, Hobbton has won the regular season, and last year the team won the championship.
