Seven county retirees, with a combined 164 years of service, were honored at this week’s Sampson County Board of Commissioners. The five employees at the meeting, who retired as of Dec. 31, were presented with a plaque from board chairman Billy Lockamy and showered with comments of gratitude from commissioners and county staff, who lauded the retirees for their dedication and service while also recognized the many family members in attendance. The retirees, from left, are: Kent D. Wooten, Cooperative Extension (2008-12); Daniel F. Holland, Health (1981-2012); Barbara F. Burch, Social Services (1982-2012); Sallie M. Bryant, Aging (1990-2012); and Dwight T. Barber, Sheriff’s Office (1986-2012). Also recognized, but not present at the meeting, were retirees Faye H. Barefoot, Social Services (1990-2012); and Cynthia B. Masters, Social Services (1982-2012).
