Sampson wasn’t without its share of crime over the Christmas holiday, and even though most of the incidents reported weren’t of the violent nature, it did leave many residents lacking during a season that is supposed to be filled with merriment.

Among the crimes committed was rash of vehicle break-ins in the Fox Lake area. Reports on those incidents were not available Monday, but law enforcement officials confirmed that some did occur, most involving cell phones, wallets, cash and computers being swiped from vehicles, some of them left unlocked.

In the city and in the county, reports steadily came in after Christmas of break-ins to homes and vehicles, with property taken and assorted damage left behind.

From computers to dogs, nothing appeared to be off limits for thieves who broke into homes sometime over the Christmas holiday, which began for many on Friday, Dec. 21 and extended through Thursday.

Among the break-ins reported were:

• Leann Taylor, Dr. Kerr Road, who reported that someone forced their way into her residence and took assorted items, including a Kodak digital camera valued at $400; a red Nikon camera valued at $150; a jewelry box with assorted jewelry (necklaces and rings) valued at $3,000; a .22-caliber rifle valued at $250; a hunting bow valued at $350; a child’s hunting bow valued at $60; a 48-inch flat screen TV valued at $1,500; cash; and a safe containing assorted knives valued at $50;

• Connie Conner, East Williams St., Autryville, who reported that someone broke into a bedroom window and took an XBox valued at $850; a Kinec system valued at $300; cash, prescription medication and jewelry valued at $1,000. Damage was reported to a window ($200), a carport door ($850) and two storm doors ($350).

• Crystal Dawn Ours, Pork Chop Lane, Newton Grove, reported that someone entered her home and took her two pit bulls, one valued at $75, the other valued at $200. Both were females’

• Allen Canning reported that someone broke into the Turkey Highway business and damaged a vending machine, taking an undisclosed amount of cash in the process. Damage was estimated at $500;

• William Thomas, Pickle Shed Lane, Clinton, reported that someone entered a shed he owns and took a Dewalt nut driver valued at $179; drill bits valued at $28; a drill bit set valued at $26; a Dewalt circle saw valued at $89; a socket set valued at $59; and a wrench set valued at $79;

• Richard Jackson, Dawson Road, Dunn, reported that someone entered his residence and took a .270 bolt action rifle valued at $700; a .303 semi-automatic rifle valued at $100; a .22-caliber bolt action rifle valued at $200; and a .22-caliber bolt action (Magnum) rifle valued at $200’

• Cleamon Edgar Eure Jr., Airport Road, reported that someone broke into his truck and took a mag lite valued at $15; a pair of binoculars valued at $250; a CB radio valued at $250; a CB radio amplifier valued at $250; a hunting knife valued at $25; and another knife valued at $25. Damage of $40 was reported to an interior light;

• Leo Daniel Brenik, Howard Road, Autryville, reported that someone took a pit bull valued at $800 and an Eskimo Spitz valued at $1,500 from their pen;

• Randy Ray Buskirk Jr., Sampson Acres, Clinton, reported that someone entered his home and took a 32-inch flat screen TV valued at $350; a desktop computer valued at $500; a Blu-Ray player valued at $200; a stereo system valued at $200; and dolls and toys valued at $350; and

• Peter Butler, Lafayette Street in Clinton reported that someone broke into his home and took a 30-inch flatscreen TV valued at $300; a 5-string banjo valued at $3,000; and a banjo case valued at $100.
