East Duplin takes down Clinton girls

East Duplin’s Lady Panthers did something few have done this season — they took down Clinton’s varsity girls at home. Final score 46-40.

The game was close throughout, with the Lady Horses and Panthers trading baskets for much of the first quarter, with East Duplin up by 1, 13-12, at the end of the period.

The battle continued into the second quarter, but the Lady Panthers were able to pull ahead slightly, taking a 26-21 lead into the break.

Back on the court after the half, both the Horses and the Panthers improved their play. After a long third quarter, the Horses pulled within 5, but the Lady Panthers weren’t about to give in. .

Playing and fighting their hardest, the Clinton girls stayed strong, but the Panthers began to step up their game. With the Horses keeping up, the Panthers got a few lucky shots in before the buzzer sounded, ending the game. With a final score of 46-40, the Panthers left the gym with a win. Keeping their heads up, the Horses did not let this loss crush them.

Courtney Pearsall led scoring for Clinton with 20 points. Tiandra Johnson and Kristen Glasper both scored 10 points.

The Lady Dark Horses take on the Northside Monarchs Tuesday in a home game that begins at 6 p.m.
