Clinton’s varsity boys took on Topsail Tuesday night, earning a 75-51 win and another conference victory.

Starting the game off, the Horses immediately brought on the heat, but the Pirates managed to stay close in the beginning. That would all change as the quarters moved on.

At the end of the first, the Horses were up 18-11, but increased intensity on both ends of the ball added fuel to their game, and they took a 33-22 lead into the half.

The Horses added 22 points in the third quarter to finish the frame ahead 58-37, with a last second shot by Clinton’s Jalen Banks adding to the momentum as the teams moved into the final period of play.

When asked about improvements, Clinton coach Randy Jordan said, “We need to continue to be unselfish and learn how to put the team before themselves.

Jordan was also asked what helped them win the game, and he noted, “Greg Smith and Alphonso McDew were great leaders. They did great on taking smart shots.”

Leading scoring for Clinton was Demontio Bryant with 13 points; Shian Bradshaw with 10 points; Thaxter Spruil with 10 points; and Wil Pearson, James Evans, and Ryan Chester with 7 points each.

Clinton boys will travel to East Duplin Friday for their second game of the week.
