Midway coach Leonard Henry received a nice present of his own Thursday night, two days after Christmas. Midway finally had all of their players on the roster healthy and able to play against North Johnston, after being injury-plagued for the entire season thus far.
The Raiders utilized all 12 players as they defeated North Johnston 57-50. Midway led 10-9 after the first quarter. Coach Henry sent in a fresh five players in the second quarter, and allowed his starters to rest the entire period. Raheem Thomas scored 6 in the second quarter, and Tyler Pope went 4-4 from the foul line in the second, giving the Raiders a 28-25 lead at the half.
The starters returned in the third quarter, stretching the Midway lead to 11 points, 40-29. The Panthers used a 6-0 run in the fourth quarter to cut the Raider lead to 45-40 with 4:09 to play in the game. Midway then stretched their lead to double digits again, 57-47. A Panther 3-pointer with 12 seconds left gave us a 57-50 final, in favor of Midway.
Raheem Thomas led the Raiders in scoring with 11 points, Quincy Baggett had 9 points and 3 blocks, while Tyler Pope added 7 points and 6 rebounds, 3 of them coming on the offensive glass.
“It was nice to finally have a full squad. We were doing a lot of experimenting tonight with the line-ups because we know now that all we have left are conference games. I’m proud of the guys, and it was good to get all of them out there and give them good minutes to get a feel of things” said Coach Henry.
Next up for the Raiders is a conference match-up with Lakewood next week.
