Nettie R. Matthis

CLINTON — Miss Nettie Rae Matthis, 61, of 4170 Turkey Hwy., died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Kitty Askins Hospice Center in Goldsboro.

An interment service will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29, at Matthis Cemetery in Clinton. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 30, at Turkey Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Ron Bryan officiating.

Ms. Matthis, born in Sampson County, was the daughter of Helen Mae Dixon Matthis and the late Benjamin Tillman “Slick” Matthis. She was a hairdresser, taught at West Duplin Christian Academy, and was a member of Turkey Baptist Church.

She is survived by her mother, Helen Mae Dixon Matthis of the home; a sister, Diane M. Cain of Turkey; two brothers, Jimmie L. Matthis and J. Clayton Matthis, both of Turkey; the children of her heart, Lisa R. Cain, Laura D. Cain, G. Joy Matthis, B. Patrick Matthis, Janie M. Peterson, Garrett S. Whipkey, Jack A Whipkey, Savannah R. Whipkey, Abigail G. Whipkey, and Alannah G. Cain.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening following the memorial service at Turkey Baptist Church and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
