A Sunday night altercation between two Sampson residents has led to the filing of an assault complaint, but neither the victim nor the reported suspect have lodged any charges.

One reason could be that both the alleged victim, 49-year-old Dallas Boone, of East Darden Road, Faison, and the suspect, who was not named in incidents reports, claim to have struck the other in self-defense.

“To my knowledge there have not been any charges filed in this case,” said Corporal Marcus Smith with the Sampson County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to the East Darden Road on Sunday, where they found Boone, who claimed he had been assaulted by another man who had gotten into an altercation with just a few minutes earlier.

Smith said Boone’s claim is that the other man hit him in the head with hammer; however, when interviewed, the alleged suspect told officers he hit Boone in self-defense.

“It’s a he-said, she-said incident,” Smith claimed. “Both are claiming to be victim’s.”

Officers, the corporal said, referred both individuals to the magistrate’s office, where such charges can be leveled.

At press time, neither had filed charges and no arrests have been made.
