Three Mount Olive College softball players earned national academic recognition as Robbin Kennedy, Danielle Mitchell and Lauren Smith were all honored as 2012 NFCA Scholar Athletes. The awards are administered by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and recognize softball student-athletes who achieved a grade point average of 3.50 or better in 2011-12.

Kennedy graduated in May with a degree in biology. She was a two-time Conference Carolinas All-Academic award winner and a three-time All-Conference Carolinas selection. Kennedy was the April 2012 MOC Female Scholar Athlete of the Year.

Mitchell is a senior exercise science major from Princeton. She was named to the 2012 Conference Carolinas Softball All-Academic Team and earned a 2012 Division II Athletics Directors Association Academic Achievement Award.

Smith, a Midway High School graduate, is a sophomore exercise science major from Clinton, N.C. She joined Kennedy and Mitchell on the 2012 Conference Carolinas Softball All-Academic Team and was also a 2012 All-Conference Carolinas second team pitcher.
