A 58-year-old Ivanhoe man has been extradited from South Carolina after the District Attorney’s office filed a governor’s warrant Friday afternoon.
Vincente Gricena Garcia, 58, of 44 Elbert Lane, Ivanhoe, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and placed under $50,000 bond. His trial date will be Sept. 17.
A governor’s warrant is issued to obtain the presence of a person in one state, when that person is actually in custody in another state. They are commonly used to enforce the return of an individual who has not waived extradition to the requesting state.
According to reports, released Monday morning by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Garcia allegedly assaulted a Sampson County man during an argument at his Ivanhoe home back on May 3. In the scuffle, Garcia allegedly hit the man in the head with a sharp object.
The victim received multiple, non-life threatening lacerations to the head and was rushed to the hospital.
Garcia was picked up the very next evening, Friday, May 4, in Greenville, S.C.
According to officials at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, the suspect refused to waive extradition back to Sampson, which forced county officials to request the District Attorney’s office to file the governor’s warrant.
Garcia was back in Sampson County Friday evening.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, he has no previous convictions.
