A man linked to the theft of thousands of dollars in jewelry is facing two felonies and a hefty $25,000 secured bond after his arrest Monday.

Joseph Anthony Royal, 21, of 200 Running Branch Lane, was taken into custody Monday morning around 9:38 a.m. in connection with a July larceny at a residence on High House Road, in the northern part of the county, according to Sampson County Sheriff’s Office Detective Clark Wilkes.

Royal was charged with felony larceny and possession of stolen goods/property Monday after his arrest.

Wilkes explained that Royal was charged Monday after warrants were issued for his arrest in the July larceny case. He was arrested without incident, taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, charged and given a $25,000 secured bond, as well as a trial date of Sept. 28.

“It wasn’t a break-in,” Wilkes would only vaguely divulge about the case. “It was a larceny. He is accused of stealing thousands in jewelry from the residence.”

The detective said none of the jewelry has been returned to the owner. He did not mention, however, where the residence was located other than High House Road.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, Royal has no previous convictions.
