A Salemburg man is behind bars under a $500,000 secured bond after being linked to a June 2010 kidnapping, robbery and assault.
Byron Jesse Hernandez, 28, of 11 Patterson Lane, Salemburg, was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon; kidnapping; and assault by pointing a gun over the weekend.
According to reports released Tuesday morning by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, Hernandez was taken into custody after he was picked up in another part of the state Saturday afternoon around 5 p.m. and turned over to Sampson County authorities.
On June 18, 2010, Hernandez, along with two other suspects, reportedly broke into a 4016 Hayes Mill Road residence in the northern part of the county, brandishing weapons. They are accused of tying up the three residents.
No one was injured in the incident.
Cpl. Marcus Smith said Tuesday afternoon that Hernandez had been a suspect in the crime, but could never be located. He was picked up Saturday on an unrelated offense in another part of the state and the outstanding warrants for the 2010 crime came up, Smith said.
Hernandez was placed under $500,000 bond and a trial date of July 20 was set.
The search is still on for the two other suspects.
