TURKEY — The town board moved its regularly scheduled meeting up a week so as not to interfere with the busy holiday season, and took the opportunity at that gathering to honor retiring town clerk Sarah White. White’s last day will be Friday, Dec. 28.

White has served as clerk in the town for the last 14 1/2 years. She announced her retirement plans several months earlier in order to allow the board ample time to find a replacement.

“I wanted the town to have time to find a new clerk and time for me to pass on how things go on here,” explained White.

Following a very brief business session, where the board heard the normal reports from various departments and approved the minutes and budget update, the action turned to saying goodbye to the clerk. The only action taken by the board was to donate $100 to the Fallen Firefighters Association.

Mayor Tim Clifton presented White with a plaque of service from the town and shared a few words regarding White and her dedicated service

“Sarah has been a great asset to this town. She has gone above and beyond her duties to see that everyone and everything was done properly. We appreciate all she has done for the town of Turkey and for each of the board members over the years. We will truly miss her presence following her retirement. We wish her well in her future endeavors and ask her not to be a stranger,” asserted the mayor.

In addition to community members, family and friends that attended the town’s celebration of the clerk’s retirement, several of the area town clerks came to honor and join in the festivities. Clerks attending included Diane Autry from Autryville, Cindy Ezzell from Harrells, Juanita Faircloth from Salemburg, Elaine Hunt from Clinton and Katrina Miller from Magnolia.

“I cannot say how much I appreciate the town and all these friends, family and community members coming out to help celebrate my retirement,” expressed White.“I am going to truly miss this job and the people I come in contact with working here. I just felt it was time for me to try to do some other things in my life. I want to spend more time with my husband, family and grandchildren. Everyone has been so good to me tonight and I am truly honored. I want to thank my fellow clerks who were able to come out and show their support. We have a special bond as we each try to do our varying jobs,” remarked the retiring clerk.

Turkey has hired Teresa Frack as the new clerk and she will assume her duties as town clerk in January.
