An lover’s quarrell escalated into an assault after the boyfriend of a local woman chased her down and allegedly smashed into her car Saturday afternoon.
Jose Compunzono-Perez, 29, of 1714 Angel Shepard Road, Roseboro, was charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of injury to personal property.
According to Sampson Sheriff’s reports, around 3 p.m. Saturday, Compunzono-Perez and his alleged 32-year-old girlfriend got into a heated argument. The argument ended when the woman got in her vehicle and left Compunzono-Perez’s residence.
Reports show the suspect jumped into his vehicle and chased the woman. When she arrived at Andrews Chapel Road and Mintz Road, Compunzono-Perez allegedly ran her vehicle off the road, slamming into it to do so. A deputy, who was on patrol in the area, happened to witness the incident and pulled Compunzono-Perez over.
The woman suffered only minor injuries and didn’t need medical attention.
The North Carolina Highway Patrol was called to investigate and gave Compunzono-Perez the additional charge of driving while intoxicated.
Compunzono-Perez was immediately taken to the Sampson County Detention Center and given a trial date of Oct. 2.
According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, he has no previous convictions.
