A Maxwell Road man is behind bars facing a string of assault charges following what is being called a domestic incident that happened Sunday night.
Gerald Lee Davis, 43, of 7889 Maxwell Road, Stedman, is charged with assault on a female, communicating threats, two counts of assault by pointing a gun and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Because of the domestic nature of the case, he was jailed for 48 hours without privilege of bond. After that, Davis will appear before a District Court judge who will then set a bond.
The 43-year-old was taken into custody Sunday after officers were called to the Maxwell Road residence in reference to an assault. Sheriff’s Cpl. Marcus Smith said when officers arrived on scene, they were met by the 44-year-old victim and her family, who told them about the assault.
Davis is accused of beating the 44-year-old with his fists and then, when family members successfully intervened, pulling him away from the victim, he brandished a gun and made threats before fleeing the scene, heading in the direction of Cumberland County.
Sampson officers called Cumberland authorities who caught up with Davis and took him into custody and delivered him to Sampson deputies.
“We appreciate the assistance from Cumberland County,” Smith acknowledged.
