The Sampson Arts Council is calling all artists, hoping they’ll participate in its 4th Annual Juried Show, being held at the Victor R. Small House from Oct. 4 through Nov. 20.

“We are really excited about holding the juried show again this year,” cited Kara Donatelli, executive director of the Sampson Arts Council. “We will kick off the event with an artist reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4 here at the Small House at 709 College St. Hopefully we will have a lot artists to contribute. Artists are not limited to Sampson County, but it is an excellent opportunity for our local artists to show their work.”

Donatelli explained that the artwork is to be two dimensional. Artists may work in either acrylic, oil, digital art, drawing/pastel, mixed media, collage, photography or watercolor.

“Eligible artists must be 18 years old or older and all art must be available for sale,” explained Donatelli.

Further rules as stated by the director include that all work must be original and executed in the past two years. A maximum of two works may entered.

“The artwork cannot have been exhibited in a previous Sampson Arts Council Juried Art Show,” added the director.

The following instructions/requirements for submission of art are as follows: Artist must submit a CD with at least three entries, (two best are chosen), which must be completely original by the artist. The CD is due by Thursday, Sept. 20. Digital size limitations: 300 dpi and 1200 pixels (longest side) recommended.

Entries should be mailed with the registration form with a CD containing your appropriately formatted images to: Sampson Arts Council, 709 College St., Clinton, NC 28328

“Artists will be notified of entries chosen (maximum of two). Artwork is to be delivered to the Victor R. Small House on Monday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.,” expressed Donatelli.

Due to limited space, art must not exceed 48 inches (including frame) in any dimension or weigh more than 50 pounds. “All work must be framed, wired (no sawtooth hangers) and ready for hanging or otherwise suitably prepared for exhibition or it will not be accepted,” shared the director. The Sampson Arts Council reserves the right to reject any entry that requires special installation or care.

The entry fee for the maximum of two entries is $25.

The Victor Small Gallery is open Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., and by appointment for all to enjoy the art display

The Arts Council will make the following awards available for the winners of the show with the awards and ribbons presented at the discretion of the judge: Best in Show, $300; first place , $150; second place, $100; third place, $50. Ribbons will be presented to the People’s Choice winner and honorable mention winners.

The director explained that a fee of $15 will be assessed for each entry that is not for sale. The Arts Council recommends that art riced between $250 and $900 has a better chance of selling and noted that prices may not change once the exhibit opens. The Arts Council retains a 30 percent commission on all sales.

Due to a lack of storage space at the Small House, all entries should be removed as soon as possible beginning Friday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We attempt to use all reasonable care in the handling and display of the art. All the art exhibited is insured from time of delivery until 5 p.m. on Nov. 20. The Arts Council staff, representatives and or sponsors assume no responsibility for the loss of or damage to art,” remarked Donatelli.

For additional information contact regarding the juried show, contact, Kara Donatelli, executive director, Sampson Arts Council at www.sampsonarts.net, or by phone 910-596-2533 or director@sampsonarts.org.

Sampsonians respond in a big way
