An argument between a Roseboro couple Tuesday evening turned violent, leading to a shooting that put one in the hospital and the other behind bars.

Sam Lockamy, 42, of 679 Mintz Road, Roseboro, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill after the incident that took place just after 8 p.m. Tuesday.

According to reports, Lockamy and her companion, 49-year-old Christopher Wheeler, were at the residence, located south of Roseboro, when the argument broke out. At some point during the confrontation, reports show, Lockamy reportedly went to another room and came back with a gun and shot Wheeler once in the right side of his chest.

Investigators did not release the make or model of the firearm. Cpl. Marcus Smith noted that Wheeler was shot only one time in the chest and no other injuries were reported.

“He was taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center where he was treated for his wound,” Smith said Wednesday morning. “He is still in the hospital recovering from the injury.”

Lockamy was taken to the Sampson County Detention Center, charged and jailed without bond.

According to the North Carolina Department of Corrections, she has no previous convictions.
