Materials typically used to create methamphetamine labs was discovered by an Autryville man in a field located near a residence earlier this week.

According to officials at the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, who only released their report on Friday, those items were discovered as the man was walking near a home located in the 400 block of Pine Loop Lane, just south of the town of Autryville.

It is believed that the materials were dumped.

After the discovery, the site was secured and a clean-up crew was called in to clear the items for safety of the residents, according to Capt. Eric Pope.

“If anyone was in the area and may have noticed any suspects or a vehicle, they are asked to give us a call,” Pope stressed.

This isn’t the first time this year methamphetamine materials have been found in Sampson County. Just eight months ago, materials were discovered within 16 days of each other. Those locations were: in the 5000 block of Autryville Road, Autryville; on Lee’s Chapel Church Road, near the Timothy Road intersection and north of Spivey’s Corner; and a meth lab was discovered in an open field near Faison.

Items typically used in meth labs are: drain cleaner; rubber gloves; a plastic bottle (often found with powdery residue); and pseudoephedrine, among other items.
