Three illegal aliens have been arrested in connection with a fight and stabbing that ended the life of 15-year-0ld Union High School student Jose Mondragon last week.
Melquiceded Barrera-Gomes, 21, of 64 Lumberjack Lane, Roseboro, was charged with one count of murder and is being held at the Duplin County Jail under no bond.
Also arrested in the incident were Urihemet Barrera Gomez, 33, of 95 Plantation Drive, Warsaw, and Arnulfo Ascencio., 19, of 109 Plantation Drive, Warsaw. Gomez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and inflcit serious injury. He was given a $100,000 bond and is currently in the Duplin County Jail. Ascencio was charged with felony breaking and/or entering; possessing a stolen firearm; and larceny of a firearm and is in Duplin County Jail under a $50,000 bond.
According to officials at the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office, Mondragon was killed while at a birthday party at the Hidden Valley Mobile Home Park, just outside of Warsaw, Sunday, July 22. The party was nearing its end, around 3:30 a.m., when a large fight erupted involving approximately 20 people.
When the dust cleared, Mondragon and two others — Francisco Alonso Hernandez, 20, Main Street, Magnolia; and Rumulo Madriano, 24, 146 Hunt Lane, Clinton — were stabbed. Mondragon reportedly died en route to Duplin Vidant Hospital; Madriano and Hernandez were also transported to the hospital and were listed in critical condition after the incident.
A condition update for the two men was not immediately available Monday.
Warrants issued by the Duplin County Sheriff’s Office and the N.C .State Bureau of Investigation note that it was Melquiceded Barrera-Gomes who allegedly stabbed Mondragon. He was picked up by Sampson County deputies two days after the incident.
Urihemet Barrera Gomez, who allegedly assaulted Madriano, and Ascencio, who was found in possession of stolen firearms at the scene, were arrested immediately. Ascencio’s arrest was in connection with a break-in that took place in Warsaw in May.
It was not clear who assaulted Hernandez.
