An early morning armed robbery at a Newton Grove bank Thursday had clerks shaken up and investigators searching the area for the two armed suspects.
At press time, the two men were still on the loose and considered armed and dangerous.
According to Detective Raymond Yeager, the two suspects, both described as black males, went into BB&T Bank, located at 307 Main St., around 9:15 a.m. brandishing weapons and demanding money.
The pair, one about 5 foot 6 inches in height, the other around 5 foot 9 inches, took off on foot towards the Dollar General Store, which is just north of BB&T, Yeager noted.
No one was injured in the incident.
In addition to the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office, an officer from the Newton Grove Police Department was on the scene around 10 a.m., and agents from the FBI were also called in.
An official statement released by the Sampson County Sheriff’s Office noted that the men got away with an undisclosed amount of money.
“At this time, information is very limited and the investigation is ongoing,” the official release noted.
Detectives were on the scene most of the day Thursday and said that as information developed in the case, more details would be released.
