A probation search Monday turned up more than a mere violation, when law enforcement officers discovered over 500 grams of marijuana and a handgun.
Agents with the Sheriff’s Special Investigations Division took Kadeem Owens, 20, 100 Capers Walk Lane, Clinton into custody around 8 a.m. and charged him with felony possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for the sale of a controlled substance, felony possession of a firearm by a felon and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was jailed under a $50,000 bond and a May 24 court date was set.
Sampson County Sheriff’s Cpl. Marcus Smith said SID agents assisted with the “warrantless” search of Owens’ residence, one of the conditions set by a judge as part of a probationary sentence.
“They are routine searches and we are often called in to assist probation officers,” Smith said. “Sometimes those searches turn up violations, such as in this case.
In addition to the 557 grams of marijuana, officers seized a handgun at the scene, another violation by someone on probation.
No further details about the incident were available and sheriff’s officials could not provide information on Owens’ probationary sentence.
