Sampson County sheriff’s authorities are continuing to piece together evidence in the death of a father and daughter found dead in the father’s New Hope Church Road residence Sunday night.

Investigators are stopping short of calling the incident a murder-suicide, but detective Julian Carr did say the incident was confined to the residence and that there were no suspects being sought in the case.

“This is still under investigation,” Carr said Monday. “We don’t have a lot of details we can release at this time.”

Investigators responded to 3660 New Hope Church Road, Turkey just after 7 p.m. Sunday, dispatched there after an E911 call. When deputies arrived at the location, they found Carolos Vazquez, 39, and his daughter, Itzel Vazquez, 18, dead.

The daughter reportedly did not live at the Sampson County residence. Her address was listed as 1342 Sea Brook School Road, Fayetteville.

Carr would not say how the two died, indicating that medical examiner Dr. Carl Barr would likely release that information following an autopsy on the pair.

“Anything I say would be speculation. Once the autopsy is complete, that information will be released,” Carr stressed.

Sunday’s father-daughter death is the second similar incident in less than a month. On Friday, Dec. 7, sheriff’s officers responded to 77 Hunter Road, north of Clinton, where they found the bodies of 13-year-old Hobbton Middle student Larissa Estrada and her father, 51-year-old Edwin L. Estrada. Both were suffering from gunshot wounds, the elder Estrada’s self-inflicted. After investigation, officers said that the incident was a murder-suicide, and that findings pointed to the father killing himself after intentionally shooting his daughter.
