Clinton police are hoping residents can help them locate a suspect wanted for questioning in the weekend armed robbery of two local residents who reportedly were robbed of wallets and cell phones after giving the suspect a ride.
Although the suspect reportedly fired into the vehicle, no one was injured in the incident, according to officers.
The incident began in the wee hours of Sunday morning, around 1 a.m., when the two victims — one 18 years old, the other 21 — picked up a black male in an area near Sampson Homes after he reportedly sent a text message to the 18-year-old seeking a ride.
Clinton investigators said the two victims picked up the suspect and drove him to the Sampson Homes area. When they arrived at the location, the suspect reportedly pulled out the weapon and demanded cell phones and wallets from both individuals. He then forced the two to drive him to a second location, this one in Dogwood Circle. There the suspect got out and, as the two drove off, the suspect reportedly shot into the vehicle twice.
Assistant Police Chief Donald Edwards said investigators are searching for a black male, approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall and wearing a brown wooden necklace. He possibly goes by the nickname “Jay Rock,” Edwards noted.
The suspect was last seen in the Dogwood Circle area early Sunday morning.
