Woman arrested for felony hit and run
by Doug Clark

A 21-year-old Roseboro woman, allegedly in a rush to get to work, rammed into the back of a vehicle near Sampson Community College Tuesday morning and took off, sending the two passengers in the car she hit to the emergency room.

Jessica Ryan Hacker, 21, of 120 Crab Apple Lane, Roseboro, was charged with felony hit and run and reckless driving. She was given a $1,500 bond and a trial date of Aug. 27.

According to reports from the Clinton Police Department, Hacker was traveling on Sunset Avenue in a 1996 Infinity around 10:19 a.m. when she ran into the back of a 2010 Toyota Camry, driven by a 47-year-old Clinton woman.

Reports show the Camry had just turned onto Sunset Avenue from Forest Drive when Hacker smashed into the back of the vehicle at a high rate of speed. After the wreck, Hacker allegedly pulled up close to the woman’s Camry and said she was “sorry”, before continuing towards downtown Clinton. The woman and her 6-year-old passenger were taken to Sampson Regional Medical Center, suffering from minor injuries. They were treated and later released.

Hacker’s estimated speed was approximately 100 mph, the report noted, and an all-points-bulletin was issued for her vehicle.

Two officers responding to the call picked up Hacker’s vehicle description and pulled the vehicle over on Elizabeth Street and Westover Road minutes later.

Reports show that officers noticed the vehicle right away because of its extensive front end damage. When they approached Hacker, they noticed that the dashboard airbags had been deployed, with smoke still coming from them.

Hacker allegedly told police she was rushing to her job and was not paying attention. According to reports, Hacker said she realized she had hit the vehicle, she just didn’t think there was that much damage done to the other vehicle, so she left.

She was immediately taken into custody.
