Taking the budget plunge
The budget faced this year by the county is one that includes an additional $700,000 annual expense, a proposed employee pay adjustment plan and a slew of other impacts affecting the county’s bottom line. Called a “novel” occurrence, a pre-budget work session is being held later this month to examine those impacts and commissioners’ concerns in preparation for a proposed budget to be submitted. Police nab suspect after Dogwood Circle shooting
A Turkey Highway man remained behind bars this afternoon, charged in connection with a shooting on Dogwood Circle late Thursday night. Cocaine charge leveled following traffic stop
Another traffic stop by Sampson County Special Investigation Division agents has turned up a suspicion of drugs and left one local man facing a felony charge. Matthew Newgat, 22, of 46 Mandolin Lane, Roseboro is now facing a felony possession of cocaine charge after officers stopped him on Hayne Stretch Road earlier this week. The Sampson County Board of Commissioners on Monday approved a $180,000 bid for equipment to remove debris flushed from the Detention Center into the city of Clinton's sewer system. The board also signed off on an agreement with the city for installation, operation and maintenance of the equipment. The City Council followed suit on Tuesday.
