Operation Round Up grants mean great news for community
Once again, South River Electric Membership Corporation’s foundation, the Community Assistance Corporation, is making someone’s day. The group awarded $32,588.06 in grants through the Operation Round Up program. The foundation awarded $27,344.69 to local educational institutions. Saint Jude’s Pastor Aide revival begins Thursday
The Pastor Aide Revival will be held at the Saint Jude Holiness Church, H.B. Lewis Road, Clinton, March 21-22 at 7:30 p.m. nightly. Fundraising for Brooklyn's Rainbow of Hope Sweet Frog manager Jerry Powell shows a T-shirt to Stephanie Jordan, who held a fundraiser at the Clinton business from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday. During that time, 20 percent of proceeds from sales at Sweet Frog benefited March of Dimes through 'Brooklyn's Rainbow of Hope,' in honor of Jordan's daughter who passed in 2010. Powell said Tuesday that the event enjoyed a good crowd and the business took in $800 total during the three hours, raising $160 toward the cause. 'It was steady just about all night,' said Powell. Jarvis McLamb, the longest sitting Sampson County commissioner, continues to receive treatment at a Raleigh hospital after suffering a stroke late Friday. Kelly Deis, a spokeswoman at WakeMed, said Tuesday that McLamb was listed in serious condition. Those Sampson County residents with outstanding taxes will have until the end of this month to pay or have their names published, even as the Board of Equalization and Review preps to hear appeals for 2013 tax bills.
