Revving up learning
Third grade students in Sandra Ward’s class recently completed a race car project. Students were to design and create a balloon powered race car. The goal was to obtain maximum speed and distance. They were given materials such as cardboard, toothpicks, straws, and balloons to get started. The challenge was for students to design the body of the car and ‘invent’ wheels from other materials. Upon completion of the project, students had a race with their cars to see how their design compared and reflect on improvements. This lesson was related to force and motion. (Courtesy photo)
