Fire probe under way
The Sampson County fire marshal’s office and the Sheriff’s Department are continuing an investigation today into what has been termed a suspicious fire which occurred Monday night at a Bills Lane residence in the Harrells area. No one was injured in the incident and the fire did minimal damage to the structure. Clinton police are searching for an armed robbery suspect who used what is being termed a toy gun to rob the Family Dollar Store Sunday night. Another methamphetamine arrest in Sampson County over the Easter break has added an exclamation point to Sheriff Jimmy Thornton’s statements last week that he’s seeing a spike in the making and use of the illegal substance. A traffic stop has led to the arrest of a Sampson County man wanted on outstanding warrants charging him with assault-related offenses. A sheriff’s deputy patrolling the area of Hayne Stretch Road late last week pulled David Alan Mesimer for a routine violation and discovered that there were warrants against the 23-year-old.
