How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? — 1 John 3:17 (NRSV) A woman ordered a plate of oysters in a seafood restaurant. She told the waiter, “I’d like them not too salty, not too fat; and they must be icy cold.” After a brief pause, she added, “And I want them quickly,” “Yes, ma’am,” replied the waiter, “and would you like them with or without pearls.” ...

Making amends
“Happy are the merciful.” — Matthew 5:7 Amends are essential in our life in order to heal us emotionally. If we’ve decided to turn our lives and will over to the care of God, it’s important that we look at whom we may owe amends to. Making a proper amends can be a new beginning to the end of your isolation from God and others. Some say, “Well God’s already forgiven me, so I’m good to go”. “I don’t need to drag up all that junk from the pa...

Bible Verse
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” — John 14:1-4 (NIV)

Summer Olympics provide opportunities for ministry in London
Opportunities to minister can come in many forms. For Milley Brewington, it came in the form of a mission trip to London during this summer’s Olympics in London. Brewington traveled to London as a part of WMU International (Women Missionary Union) ministry outreach program for the Olympics. She was there from Aug. 3 through Aug. 13. The WMU International program was called More Than Gold. WMU International even had souvenir pins made that r...

Let them hate you
Luke 6:22 Jesus says “Blessed are Yea, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company and shall reproach you and cast out your name as evil, for the son of man’s sake.” Saints of God, I want to share something with you this week that I believe will bless you as you wait upon the Lord. It’s simple, but yet difficult to do on your own, so that’s why we need the help of the Holy Spirit to see us through this. Le...

What will you say?
Robert C. Oliver Let us begin with some Bible facts. These are truths found in God’s word and are therefore not open for debate. God’s word is truth (John 17:17) and it is the truth that will set one free (John 8:32). Mere man has neither the right nor authority to change God’s word in any way (Deut. 4:2; Gal. 1:8-9). Now, note the following facts. First, God has all authority. He is the creator (Gen. 1:1: Rom. 9:20-21). He has given auth...

An unexpected storm
One day I was driving, there was a designated place I had to be. I was determined to arrive there on time. I did everything that was required of me to make it on time. By invitation, next to me, was a veteran. A seasoned prayer warrior. Those who know her will agree that I speak truth. My mother. Only that divinely orchestrated day, as I was driving, I took notice of how majestically the sun was shining brightly. Softly billowy clouds decorat...

The power of prayer touches lives, changes things
Do you believe in the power of prayer? Prayer is an important power. Prayer is a response, not something we initiate. Powerful praying changes things. Prayer has certainly changed my life, how about yours? Recently, Kyle Hunter, a young lad who attends The Learning Station, taught me lessons about the power of humility and prayer. He entered The Learning Station wearing a sheepish grin and handed me a beautifully wrapped package. He stood s...

Incredible God deserves incredible praise.”
The day was beautiful. The sun was shining brightly. In my hands was a well deserving cup of espresso. A familiar quote came to mind. “When you find a place of peace, linger there.” Sipping the warm brew on that day, I purposely did just that. Without guilt I lingered in that place of peace and tranquility. The park was full of life. There were passers-by, from different walks of life, all doing their own thing. A mother was teaching her da...

Food for thought — what controls our eating habits?
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently released an article in which they indicated an estimated 42 percent of Americans will be obese by the year 2030. That’s an astounding percentage! The ever popular Dr. Oz believes that food can be just as addictive as alcohol or drugs. Statistics show we spend more on health care than any other developed nation, yet our country has among the highest rates of preventable diseases. I b...

The two prophets
At the end of the reign of Solomon as king of the nation of Israel, the kingdom was split into two separate kingdoms, Judah and Israel. Rehoboam, the son of Solomon was made king over Israel in his father’s stead, but the ten northern tribes rejected him and chose Jeroboam to be their king, forming two distinct nations. Jeroboam, fearing that Israel would return to Jerusalem to worship at the temple and be turned back to Rehoboam, decided to ...

Offering thanks to the Lord
Lord I just want to thank you. Lord I just want to thank you. Lord I just want to thank you. Thank you for being so good to me. Behind those soulful melodically expressed words were sung and unsung stories. These were stories of hope and great sorrow. These were testimonies of achieved victories, and of great losses being sung. Yet, in the midst, a leading to the after this, and arriving to an I overcame it, there is a thank you Lord!...

I must decrease
When Jesus faced the painful and demeaning death of a crucifixion, He put the will of the Father first, In the garden of Gethsemane, He fell on his face and prayed, saying, “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt” (Matt. 26:39). This attitude that Jesus expressed in this statement is one which He exhibited throughout His ministry. He once said, “I can of mine own self do nothing...
