BENSON — If you’re looking for some fun and family excitement on Saturday night, then go out to the Galot Motor Sports Park where for the first time in the history of the speedway, JM Motor Sports Production will sponsor the World’s Largest Kids Demolition Derby. The fun-filled event is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

There will be five events to take place. The first is for kids ages 4 to 9 (power wheels with a 6 or 12 volt battery), a youth demolition for ages 10-15 ( a youth/passenger derby), compact car and station wagon open to passenger, and an adult 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and 8 cylinder championship derby.

“The Power Wheels Derby will, perhaps, be the most fun for the spectators, family, and the kids. The kids will try to bump into or run over the other kids’ cars. In this event all kids will receive a trophy,” said Jay Milligan of JM Motor Sports.

The 4 cylinder Youth Demolition Derby is for ages 10-15; the winner (the last car running) will receive the championship trophy and $500.

In the adult 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and 8 cylinder events, the winner (last car running) will receive a championship trophy and $600 and the second place finisher will receive a trophy and $200.

The winner of the 4 cylinder, 6 cylinder, and 8 cylinder derby championships will represent Galot Motorsports at the North Carolina State Championship Derby which will be held at the North Carolina State Fair on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 2:30 p.m.

There is a $15 entry fee for this Saturday’s event; it must be paid by a money order, bank draft, or business check made payable to JM Motor Sport Productions, Inc. You may also go online to www.jmderby.com. The show is limited so organizers encouraged those interested to enter early to guarantee acceptance. Drivers may enter as many cars as they’re qualifying events.

Pit passes are $15 and all drivers and all crew leaders must purchase a pit pass, which is for participant medical insurance. You must be 16 years old to enter the pits, except for the youth and Power Wheel drivers. Anyone under 18 must have a signed minor’s release form by a parent or guardian during pit gate hours.

The pit gate will open between 4:00 p.m.-5:30 p.m.. Cars arriving late will not be allowed to participate.

The cost to the spectators is $10.

Milligan also said participants can register on the day of the event.

“So come on out to the Galot Sports Motorsports Parks on Saturday to have an enjoyable evening with the family,” concluded Milligan.

Galot Motor Sports Park is located at 555 Dragstrip Road, Benson. The sports park can be reached at 919-894-1662.
