SALEMBURG — The Lakewood Country Club was the site of the fourth annual Autryville New Life Church of God Golf tournament on Saturday. The weather was perfect until the last team rolled in and the heavy rains came.
Over 72 golfers packed the course which included 18 teams. Pastor Larry Autry said the money raised will go toward the building fund for remodeling the children’s church.
“I am well pleased with the turn out today and wish to thank the players and all of those involved in help making the day a huge success,” noted Autry.
There were two flights in the event, which awarded first, second, and third place winners in both flights.
Winners for the first flight included the first place team of Stuart Autry, Jason Warren, Curt Pritchard and Mike McFall. Second place in the first flight was the team of Curtis Maroschak, Phillip Smoak, Steven Faircloth and Kyle Knowles. Third place was the team of Jim Raynor, Colton Banks, Rick Worley and A.G. Holland.
First place winners from the second flight included the team of Justin Adams, Dana Spake, Bernie Bunce and Brian Bunce. Second place went to the team of Brian Bales, Albert Radford, Percy Davis and Percy Stone. while Cope Bunce, Dwight Matthews, Fred Hoel and Jason Matthews took third place in the second flight.
Closest to the pin on hole 9 was Jason Warren and Curtis Maroschak was closest on the 17th hole. Organizers said the fifth annual event for 2017 was already in the works.
“The church is already working on next year’s event,” said Brooke Autry.
